Our wedding party consists of those people who we believe will provide the most accountability for Sarah and I for the rest of our lives. These are our dear friends and family members. Each of them is special to us so we sat down and wrote a few sentences about what they have meant to us. Sarah shares about her bridesmaids and I share about my groomsmen.
Amanda Christenson (Maid of Honor)
Amanda and I were practically sisters growing up. We spent pretty much every waking hour together. Every weekend we were at each others' house, we went on family vacations together, and spent holidays with each others' families. And now we are both graduating with art degrees and getting married. While it's not exactly the dream we had (photographers for National Geographic in Africa. . .), it is still pretty awesome that we get to do all this together.
Tom Gerdt (Best Man)
I have been planning on having my dad as my best man for years. Your best man is someone who knows you better than most, someone who loves you and wants the best for you, someone who will hold you accountable to your vows. My father is by far the best candidate for that position. He is one of my best friends and I know I can always count on his loving support.
Megan Conner
Megan was my first friend at our old church. Through the years we become better and better friends and have so much in common: music, theology, our love of SCOTLAND. I am looking forward to adding "married woman" to that list and being able to hang out as a married couple with her and Todd (and maybe moving to Scotland in a couple years!).
Tim McDonald
Tim and I go way back. He has always been a lot like an older brother to me. He and his wife treated me like a son when I was growing up. We've done a lot of crazy things since we met (peddling Beanie Babies on the side of the road or staying up all night playing NASCAR) and many of my fondest memories are thanks to the McDonalds. Having Tim in my wedding was a no-brainer. I have never doubted his support.
Katie Gerdt
Katie and I met only a short time ago but I feel like I've known her forever. It was on the art trip to NYC this past fall that we started spending time together and I really feel like she is my long lost sister (Fsister!). I am so glad that she really will be my sister in a few months! I love her to death.
David Gerdt
Dave is my older brother by almost five years. He has been an example to me in most situations that life throws at a young man. The two of us are different - no doubt about that - but I am always glad when we have opportunity to be together. I watch him for silent advice and his support or lack thereof has weighed heavily on many of my decisions. I'm thankful to have him as a groomsman.
Bonnie Gerdt
Bonnie is awesome. Enough said. No really, Bonnie is the happiest person I know and she is a ton of fun. We have a great time discussing books (Jasper Fforde. . .) and I cannot wait to have her as a sister. I have really been so blessed with my future family. I couldn't ask for a better one!
Gabe Gerdt
I have always given Gabe a pretty hard time - usually joking or sarcastic. Sometimes I am amazed at how well he takes it. There have been times where I should have been punched right in the face. He is a friend and a great brother and I love him. I am looking forward to seeing him set out on the same adventures in a few years that I find myself in now.
GPC has been one of our greatest sources of encouragement through this entire process. Pastor Rob McCurley is more of a shepherd than either of us ever thought was possible. The love and support that we have received from our church family has us convinced that God has us in the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) for a reason. We look forward to continued work and fellowship within the church as husband and wife.
Greenville Presbyterian Church is our home. Unfortunately we have no building suitable for a wedding celebration. It was in August that we saw the Radius Church building for the first time. GPC needed a larger area for our Sunday worship services and Radius seemed like a good possibility. Sarah fell in love with the old architecture, but the sanctuary was in need of some major renovations. When January arrived and we still needed a place to get married Radius fell into our laps. The renovations are coming along perfectly and every time we visit the building we are more and more impressed with the improvements. We are very grateful to the people at Radius Church for their kindness to us.
